Townes ...

Okay time for a bit of a random post ...

Close your eyes
Ill be here in the morning
Close your eyes
Ill be here for a while

Been listening to the new Steve Earle record a lot this week. It is a compilation of songs written by the great Townes van Zant. Both were great friends and along with Guy Clark have written some of the greatest songs in terms of capturing exactly how folks feel about life.

Listening to Steve Earle sing Townes songs got me thinking about the record they did with Guy Clark and in particular the track "Dublin Blues" ...and a link to the state of Texas. In it, Guy sings about wishing he was in an particular bar in Austin drinkin a very particular drink. My pal Pyro and myself have a kernel of an idea to head over to the Chilli Palour bar to find out exactly why but that is another story all together.

For some reason, the lone star state has been a recurring theme in my life over the years. I have a couple of pals who have lived there ...much of the music I love has links to it and my favourite old t-shirt (pic below) is the state flag. In fact next to my photograph collection and an old Fender acoustic guitar, this shirt would be one of the few items I own which I would stop to collect on the way out should this place ever catch fire ! I was once shown a whole heap of pics from Big Bend National park and fully intend to stand on top of Emory Peak and to look over the Rio Grande at some point in my life.

Suppose I better head to bed but thought it would be nice to share ...

I hope you've had a chance to listen to Lyle Lovett's 'Step Inside This House' -- a tribute album to the music of these great
    Texas artists.

And when you're ready to hike Big Bend's South Rim ...let me know. You'll love it.
