Maybe a bit of a geek thing but I remember the sense of satisfaction seeing progress against the list being made. I would mark up summits visited and scan through maps planning the next trip. Whilst the mountain adventures have never stopped (and never will), the last decade has been taken up with revists to areas, training for my ML qualification and assisting other folks with "their" lists. After a couple of days with Manny Gorman on his Corbett run last year, I decided a round of Corbetts was something I wanted to do.
So far this year I have been over 43 new summits. The Merrick hill race saw me complete my first section.
